As DepEd issued DO 40, series of 2012 entitled “DepEd Child Protection Policy”, that prohibits schools to use corporal punishment, the department release last November 2015, Positive Discipline In Everyday Teaching: A Primer for Filipino Teachers to help teacher understand what positive discipline is, and apply its concept in classroom management.
The primer also includes steps on how to apply positive and non-violent type of discipline in school.
According to this guidelines, Positive Discipline is a teaching approach that helps learners succeed, by providing them information they need to learn and supports their development. It also aims to respects children’s right and protect them from any kind of violence.
The Positive Discipline in Everyday Teaching (PDET) approach is holistic, strength-based, constructive, inclusive, pro-active and participatory; that is based on sound pedagogical principles and practice.
It sites problem solving steps in dealing with positive discipline, it set teacher mind on what to see, what to hear and what to act during classroom situation where positive discipline is needed.
This primer can serve your manual in classroom management, because it guide us how to respond, when to respond and understand what our learners want to convey as conflict inside the classroom arises.
Teachers can learn so much from this primer, especially in dealing classroom management wherein teaching-learning process affected. It is also proper to follow these strategies and guiding principle so that teachers may be aware on their limitations on discipline their students.
