Aside from their role of identifying, assessing ang managing hazards, vulnerabilities and risks in the community including schools, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management initiate a campaign on proper waste management.
They disseminate information on the importance of waster management and its connections to the safety of learners, teachers and staff in school. Public awareness on the effects of poor management of waste was raise to let the school on the consequences.
MDRRM instruct schools to uses color-coded waste bin or container that segregates trash according to their type. Yellow bin, commonly used for non-biodegradable, green for biodegradable and blue for recyclable.
They also conduct inspections in different school to check if this measure is followed and to make sure the school is waste-free institutions.
According to the study, Cleanliness and Learning in Higher Education, by Center For Facilities Research at Association of Higher Education, a correlation exists between the cleanliness of school facilities and learners’ academic achievements.
It is also supported by another study of Chinaza Uleanya, on the influence of cleanliness on learners learning capabilities and academic performance, wherein it states that cleanliness promotes good health and has a factor which enhances learning abilities of learners.
By providing learners with clean environment for learning, must be another key in obtaining success not only in terms of academic performance, but also promotes good values such as cleanliness, discipline and others.
And as E. Oppenheimer says, Having a clear mind and clear space allows you to think act with a purpose.
