Toughness, perseverance and determination are indelible traits that drive athletes to overcome obstacles in life. On the court as in life, this young athlete epitomizes the kind of resiliency that dreams are made of. Meet the future basketball star in John Ronald Barba. He won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the juniors division in the NCAA season 95 basketball tournament. He will face action in the upcoming NCAA season 100 when the annual collegiate basketball tournament resumes.
Born John Ronald C. Barba on March 3, 2000 at Binan City, Laguna. The 6-foot-2 cager is now playing for Lyceum of the Philippines University Cavite Campus. He joined the 2019 NBTC and helped propel his team to the next level of NCAA season 95 juniors basketball.
In the PBA, he likes LA Tenorio of Ginebra Gin Kings. “Simple lang maglaro and mautak siya kahit maliit”, said Ronald. John Ronald makes sure he doesn’t neglect his studies. “I always make my assignments in schools and projects as well so that I won’t be left behind even as I play for my school”, added JR. His favorite NBA player is Kawhi Leonard of the Los Angeles Clippers.
His career high in points is 30 against San Sebastian College-Recoletos in one of his NCAA games. His ambition in life is to be a pilot or a PBA player someday. With dedication to his passion and unceasing faith in God, these dreams are never far-fetched for the young cager John Ronald Barba.
