Plaridel Elementary School recently celebrated “Buwan ng Wika” with the theme “Filipino: Wikang Mapagpalaya,” aiming to enhance awareness of Filipino culture and language among its learners. The celebration focused on three key objectives: fostering a deeper understanding of Filipino culture and language, encouraging students to actively participate in activities that emphasize the importance of the Filipino language as their mother tongue, and providing a platform for students to showcase their talents in activities that promote Filipino culture and history.
Throughout August, the school emphasized the richness of Filipino culture by having all teachers wear Filipiniana attire every Monday, symbolizing the importance of preserving Filipino customs. In addition to this, different trivia related to Filipino culture were discussed weekly, serving as a tool to recall and reinforce various aspects of Filipino heritage.
The celebration culminated on the last Thursday of August with a grand showcase of student talents. The winning students from each grade level displayed their skills in various cultural activities: Kindergarten students engaged in creative coloring focused on native Filipino clothing, Grade 1 students recited poems about Filipino culture, Grade 3 students participated in creative storytelling, Grade 4 students sang traditional Filipino songs, Grade 5 students engaged in “Balagtasan,” a form of Filipino debate in verse, and Grade 6 students presented original creative poems. The event successfully highlighted the students’ talents while reinforcing the importance of the Filipino language and culture, making the “Buwan ng Wika” celebration a memorable and educational experience for the entire school community.
