LGU Los Baños kaisa sa National Rice  Awareness Month

Los Baños, Laguna – Nakiisa ang Pamahalaang Bayan ng Los Baños, sa pamumuno ni Mayor Anthony “Ton” Genuino, sa taunang selebrasyon ng Annual National Rice Awareness Month. Inumpisahan ito sa pagbubukas ng exhibit at trade fair sa Munisipyo ngayong Nobyembre na may temang:
“Be Rice-ponsible: A, B, K, D. A – Adlay, mais, saba atbp. ay ihalo sa kanin, B – Brown rice ay kainin, K – Kanin ay huwag sayangin, at D – Dapat bigas ng Pilipinas ang bilhin.”
Sinalihan naman ang exhibit ng mga organisasyong PhilRice-LB, ATI-4A, DOST-PCAARRD, BIOTECH-UPLB at RCPC-4A na nagpakita ng iba’t iba nilang research at makabagong teknolohiya tungkol sa bigas.
Mayroon ring trade fair na nag-aalok ng mga locally produced rice na mabibili sa abot-kayang halaga.
Kaugnay ng selebrasyon, nagkaroon ng aktibidad sa buong buwan ng Nobyembre ang pamahalaang lokal, sa pamamagitan ng Tanggapan ng Pambayang Agrikultor, gaya ng Parol at Poster Making Contest, pamamahagi ng farm inputs, mga pagsasanay at marami pang iba.
“Ang ating magsasaka ay nakatatanggap ng libreng certified inbred seeds mula sa RCEF sa pamamagitan ng DA-Philrice Los Baños. Ang Pamahalaang Bayan ng Los Banos naman ay namimigay ng libreng fertilizers para sa ating mga magsasaka,” batid ni Municipal Agriculturist Cheryll Laviña-Gonzales.
Dalawang samahan naman ng magpapalay sa Los Baños ang nakatanggap ng libreng makinarya, tulad ng tractor, harvester, transplanter, single pass rice miller, dryer, hydrotiller at water pump mula sa local at national government. Makatutulong ito upang mapabilis at mapababa ang gastos sa produksyon ng palay.
Dagdag ni Laviña-Gonzales, may plano rin ang pamahalaang lokal na magkaroon ng Rice Processing Center at warehouse dito sa bayan.
Sa kasalukuyan, patuloy ang Farmers Field School ng heirloom rice production na nilalahukan ng mga anak ng magsasaka at 4H Club members. Ang mga kabataang ito ay ginawang scholars ng pamahalaang bayan, sa ilalim ng programa ni Mayor Genuino, upang palakasin at paunlarin ang agrikultura sa LB.
