Perseverance, resiliency, and the will to win amidst difficulties are qualities that this Falcon possesses. Let us take a glimpse of this future superstar’s preparations for his basketball career and more.

Born Mathew Jacob Montilla-Montebon on January 25, 2003 in Bay Area, CA, USA to Mr. Robert Montebon and Ms. Regina Montilla, the 6-foot point guard/ shooting guard cager from Adamson University is currently taking up Marketing.

Asked how he balances basketball and his studies, “plan ahead and try to plan out my schedule early in the week so I’m not jingling anything and it also helps me stay organized. I also have help from teammates, coaches, friends, and family”, said Mathew. One of his most memorable games was the UE 2nd round because of the energy in the arena. “It was my first big “breakout” game and from the reaction I saw from my family, it made more special for me”, quipped the Falcon cager.

His other hobbies include watching American football, video games, and cleaning. His idols in basketball are Stephen Curry and Simon Enciso. “Stephen Curry because he is a Bay Area legend and I grew up watching him. Also, just seeing the joy he plays inspires me to try and be like that when I play. In the PBA, I would say Simon Enciso. Back when I was in high school, I did not know much about basketball in the Philippines but then I began to train with this trainer named Milo and I saw Simon training and heard about his success in the Philippines, he helped inspire me to come out here and play”, quipped Mathew.

In the UAAP, his career high is 16 points. Preseason wise, it was 27 points, from a tune-up game. His ambition in life is to serve Jesus Christ and spread his word, have a big family and hopefully continue to be around basketball in the future, whether as a coach, player etc.
