Buwan ng Wika, or National Language Month, is indeed an important celebration in the Philippines that highlights the significance of the Filipino language and culture. It’s great to know that the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) takes the lead in organizing this event every August.
Buwan ng Wika 2024 with the theme, “Filipino, Wikang Mapagpalaya” highlights the significant role of the Filipino language in promoting social change, empowerment, and social justice. It emphasizes the importance of language in breaking down barriers and fostering inclusivity, equality, and understanding among Filipinos. The theme suggests that the use of Filipino can lead to greater freedom of expression, critical discourse, and advocacy for rights and freedoms.
By focusing on the liberating aspect of the Filipino language, the theme draws attention to the power of language in promoting social change. It encourages Filipinos to use their language to voice their opinions, challenge injustices, and actively participate in the democratic process. The theme also serves as a reminder that the Filipino language is not only a means of communication but also a symbol of national identity and unity.
Daniw Elementary School conducted Buwan ng Wika on August 30, 2024. There were various activities conducted like Slogan, poster making, Poem recital, and literary events to promote the use and appreciation of the Filipino language. This could include showcase the richness and diversity of Filipino culture.
This theme is significant because it acknowledges the importance of language in shaping social structures and promoting social justice of every individual. It encourages Filipinos to recognize the potential of their language to bring about positive change and to use it as a tool for empowerment and liberation.
