During the first session of Catch-Up Fridays in my Grade One class. The pupils are happily doing their task while playing “Spin the Gallon” where in they need to compose a word with two-three syllables and write it on their drill board. The batch 1 was group by their categories. After the game the class was much happier when they received their rewards.
I prepared to use “Word Gobbler” presented by Disney Characters like Mickey Mouse, Sponge Bob and Garfield together with their food that needs to feed the animals. The food was printed with syllables and form according to their food such as cheese, fish and burger. They going to compose a word and a phrases and need to write it on their drill board then feed to the big mouth. There are different station in this scenario. They need to compose as fast as possible and as many as they can do in five minutes by pair or group.
I saw the glow on their faces when they can be able to contract a CVC word using the Spin “A Whell of Letters” They need to spin the whell and form as many word as they can and write the word on the drill board. It is done by group, pair and individual in accordance to the needs of the learners. The class was group by their reading level.
