Sto. Tomas, Batangas – AP Renewables Inc. (APRI) and the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management (PSALM) of the Department of Energy (DOE), conducted a half-day forum for the barangay officials of its host communities regarding the Land Lease Agreement (LLA). The forum was held last September 11, 2024 at the Covered Court of Brgy. San Felix in this city.
According to Leonardo Robel, APRI Vice President for Corporate Services, the forum will enable the host communities to meet the lessor and land owner of the MakBan power plants that APRI has been operating since 2009. The event was also able to provide an opportunity for host communities to gain a deeper understanding of the key provisions of the LLA, enabling them to actively contribute to ensuring compliance and preventing potential issues within their areas.
While the forum was informative, the highlight came when the barangay officials had the opportunity to meet with PSALM officials overseeing the MakBan Land Lease Agreement. This allowed them to ask questions directly and receive immediate responses, fostering open communication and clarity.
Renewable energy with several hydroelectric, geothermal, and solar power generation facilities were also discussed. They also learned that AboitizPoweralso has thermal power plants in its generation portfolio to support the country’s baseload and peak energy demands.
The company also owns distribution utilities that operate in high-growth areas in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, including the country’s second and third-largest private utilities.
AboitizPower, together with its partners, is the Philippines’ largest owner and operator of renewable energy based on installed capacity. In the next 10 years, the company will significantly expand its Cleanergy portfolio, in support of the government’s efforts to promote renewable energy in the country. AboitizPower will build an additional 3,700 MW of renewable energy, growing its existing Cleanergy capacity threefold by 2030.
