Batangas City – Ten inmates escaped from the Malainin, Ibaan Rehabilitation and Detention Center Monday morning in a jailbreak that prompted an immediate response from authorities.

According to reports, two jail guards were allegedly disarmed by the escapees during the breakout.

Five of the fugitives boarded a passenger bus in an attempt to flee the area however, through swift coordination and the use of drone technology, the Batangas Provincial Police were able to track the bus.

“We immediately deployed a tracker team and even used a drone to monitor the direction of the bus. Coordination among our units along Star Tollways was also quick,” said Col. Geovanny Sibalo, Provincial Director of Batangas Police.

With the help of drone, the SWAT team of the Batangas Police intercepted the bus in Sto. Tomas, Batangas, and successfully compelled the five fugitives onboard to surrender.

All bus passengers were safe and unharmed.

Meanwhile, three more escapees were recaptured within Ibaan following a thorough search around the detention facility.

“Eight out of the ten escapees are now back in custody. Only two remain at large,” Col. Sibalo added.

Police are continuing their hot pursuit operations to apprehend the remaining fugitives. Checkpoints across the province have also been placed on alert to ensure public safety.

Batangas Police are urging the public to immediately report any information regarding the whereabouts of the remaining escapees.
