This study aimed to identify and describe the effects of Multiple Intelligences (MI) on the investigative skills among Senior High School (SHS) learners in Daraetan Integrated School in a Science Caravan.
This study provides a refined Science teaching approach using Multiple Intelligences to demonstrate the student’s investigatory skills in a Science Caravan. It also identifies the challenges of the Grade 11 students that results to low level of Performance task in Science and assess the students’ multiple intelligences.
It was also observed that students in Public Schools of Tanay, Rizal are not actively engaged in investigatory projects in Science Fair during the celebration of Science month.
The researcher aimed to address these gaps through experiencing the Science Caravan that is appropriate to the learners’ level of ability.
This study used a one-shot experimental design. A random sampling technique was utilized. A total of 50 senior high school learners from HUMSS were the participants, with 17 males and 33 females. Their ages range from 16-53 years old. The study covers the topic on the Earth and Life Science and Physical Science. The observers on the output of the respondents are One hundred sixty (160) Grade 10 learners from upland secondary Public schools of Tanay Rizal because of the Spiral Progression implemented by the DepEd. Among the public schools used in this study are Cayabu Integrated School, Sto. Nino Integrated School, Cuyambay National High School. In the pilot testing of this study, Eighty (80) Grade 10 learners of Daraetan Integrated School was used as observers on the output of the respondents .
The instrument used in determining the Multiple Intelligences (MI) of senior high school learners was the standardized test. The Science teachers from the said upland secondary Public schools of Tanay, Rizal likewise evaluated the projects of the respondents using a rubric which described their investigative skills in a Science Caravan where the investigatory projects of Grade 11 learners were demonstrated. The different investigative skills were assessed during the conduct of the Science caravan.
Results showed that different levels of correlation between multiple intelligences and Investigative skills were found. The multiple intelligences act as the predicator of the investigative skills of the Grade 11 Senior High School learners.
The findings revealed that the MI group in Linguistic, Logical Mathematical, Musical and Intrapersonal has a significant relationship between the multiple intelligence and the investigative skills in Earth Science and Physical Science subject. Findings also inferred that Interpersonal group has the overall output showing there is a significant relationship between the multiple intelligence and the investigative skill in the Science caravan.
