BIÑAN CITY, Laguna — Governor Sol Aragones spearheaded relief operations in barangays Dela Paz and Malaban here, providing critical aid to over 1,500 families or approximately 7,500 individuals displaced by severe flooding caused by relentless rainfall.
Joined by Vice-Governor JM Carait, Mayor Gel Alonte, Vice Mayor Dada Reyes, Board Member Wilfredo Bejasa Jr., and other local officials, Governor Aragones distributed food packs and essential supplies from the Department of Social Welfare and Development to affected residents. The team ensured that assistance reached the most vulnerable households, including those in evacuation centers.
For many residents, the flooding brought daily life to a standstill. Dario Greganda, a construction worker, shared his gratitude after receiving aid. “This means a lot to us. With no income this week, the food packs will help us get by,” he said.
Meanwhile, Teresita Esplata, a grandmother carrying her young grandchild while waiting in line, recounted how floodwaters rose rapidly in their neighborhood. “These supplies are a big help, especially for my grandchild,” she added.
Governor Aragones also took the opportunity to raise awareness about the dangers of waterborne diseases, particularly leptospirosis, which often spreads after floods. She urged residents to maintain cleanliness in evacuation centers and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms like fever, muscle pain, or dark urine appear.
The relief operation highlights the provincial and city governments’ coordinated response to natural disasters, ensuring that affected families receive immediate support while long-term recovery plans are put in place.
As Laguna braces for more rain, officials remain on high alert, prioritizing the safety and well-being of residents.
